| The Community
Planning Group (CPG) is an HIV/AIDS prevention
planning body whose activities are advisory
in nature. Its primary tasks are developing
a comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention plan (based
on scientific evidence and community values)
and making recommendations to the AIDS Activities
Coordinating Office (AACO, the City Health
Department office responsible for HIV/AIDS
services) on ways to allocate prevention funds
so that prevention goals are met most effectively.
CPG activities, confined to the City of Philadelphia,
are governed by guidelines issued by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
a federal agency.
One of the CPG’s membership
goals is that half of the CPG be persons living
with HIV or at high risk for HIV. The overall
composition of membership is quite diverse.
As required by the CDC in its Supplemental
Guidance, CPG membership must include “representatives
of affected populations, epidemiologists,
behavioral and social scientists, HIV/AIDS
prevention service providers, health department
staff, and others (e.g., representatives of
organized healthcare delivery systems that
serve persons with or at risk for HIV infection)."
The CPG membership possesses considerable
expertise around HIV/AIDS prevention.
