There is no cure
for AIDS. The
only way to avoid HIV infection is to follow effective prevention.
These include health education, behavior modification, condom
and clean syringe distribution, delayed sexual activities, and
antiretroviral therapy for pregnant women to reduce the risk of
mother-to-child transmission. It is essential for information
about these health strategies to be factual, culturally relevant,
and comprehensive. HIV/AIDS prevention messages are most useful
when they are integrated into broader health promotion efforts.
Such efforts are often found in educational institutions and correctional
facilities, and as a part of substance abuse and mental health
treatment.
