Ralph Regula Receives 2002 National Leadership Award
for HIV/AIDS Service

Washington, DC – Representative Ralph Regula (R-OH), chair of the House Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education is a recipient of the 2002 National Leadership Reception. This award is given for outstanding leadership in the effort to end the domestic HIV/AIDS crisis annually by AIDS Action and representatives of the U.S. Conference on AIDS.

Dr. Marsha Martin, executive director of AIDS Action, presented Chairman Regula with a plaque during a meeting at his office, this afternoon. “Chairman Regula has helped to keep attention on the numerous challenges facing this nation because of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. He has been a champion for the cause,” Dr. Martin noted. “With new support from the Bush Administration,” she continued, “I am hopeful that Representative Regula will find it easier to secure the funding that people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS need to lead healthy and productive lives.”

Representative Regula, a former educator, is serving his fifteenth term in Congress as the representative from Ohio’s sixteenth Congressional District. In Ohio, Representative Regula formerly served both as a State House representative and as state senator.

AIDS Action Foundation strives to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic by working for public policies that promote prevention against new infections, provide care for people already living with HIV/AIDS, and support the search for a cure. AIDS Action is the national voice of all people living with HIV, representing community based organizations across the country.
