Washington,
DC – AIDS Action and its board join AIDS Services Foundation
of Orange County, an AIDS Action member organization, in announcing
Governor Gray Davis’s intention to proclaim Saturday, February
8, 2003 as “Dame Elizabeth Taylor Day" in California. Coordinated
by the organizers of Art for AIDS II, Taylor will be honored for
her unparalleled commitment in the fight against AIDS. She is
a powerful advocate and partner in developing government policy
and expanding the government's response to the AIDS epidemic.
The
official proclamation will be delivered to Dame Taylor at Art
for AIDS II on February 8, 2003 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach
Resort and Spa in Dana Point, California. Michael Jackson, Warren
Beatty, Annette Bening, Carrie Fisher, Barry Manilow and Tom Petty
will join Taylor at the event to support two non-profit organizations,
AIDS Services Foundation Orange County and Laguna Art Museum.
In a moving speech at last year’s inaugural Art for AIDS, Dame
Taylor promised to continue her fight against AIDS until a cure
is found. “In 1984, I vowed to Rock [Hudson] and to myself to
make a difference. Now, here we are 17 years later and we have
blood tests, effective treatments, research and support groups
as well as some government support. But we need better treatments,
better education, and better outreach to the Hispanic and other
minority communities. Someday, hopefully, we will have a vaccine,
which will put an end to this plague.”
A limited number of tickets for Art for AIDS II are still available.
Guests have the choice of attending two exciting events - a Gala
Dinner or the Pacific Ballroom Celebration - that occur concurrently
at the beautiful St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa.
An exclusive Gala Dinner with the celebrity guests will take place
at St. Regis’ Club 19. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres commence at
5:30 p.m. Dinner, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Afterwards, guests
from the Gala Dinner will join approximately 500 people at the
Pacific Ballroom Celebration for the remainder of the evening
festivities.
The Pacific Ballroom Celebration begins at 7:00 p.m. Guests will
enjoy a buffet dinner featuring some of Southern California’s
finest restaurants, live entertainment by the Brazilian jazz band,
Robert Kyle and a silent and live auction.
Donations to the Gala Dinner with the celebrity guests are $2,000
per person, seating is limited. General admission to the Pacific
Ballroom Celebration is $135 per person. Gala Dinner and general
admission tickets are still available. Proceeds benefit AIDS Services
Foundation Orange County and Laguna Art Museum. For more information,

In its second year, Art for AIDS II is Orange County’s premiere
celebrity benefit. Given the impact of the AIDS epidemic in the
arts community, co-chairs, Arnold Klein, M.D., Al Roberts and
Jack Kenefick began the collaborative fundraiser to support AIDS
Services Foundation Orange County (ASF) and Laguna Art Museum
(LAM). For more information about ASF please visit www.ocasf.org.
